Born and raised in New York City, Angela Woodley has always been inspired by culture and music. As a child, Angela’s father introduced her to new and old music. Often times, he would sing to her and her sisters while listening to records from his very large record collection. Angela acquired a love for instruments at an early age, as her father also played piano, and would sit her down to listen to him play and sing. Later Angela’s parents moved her to the Bronx where she met and grew up with other family members who had deep rooted musical backgrounds singing in churches. This would also be where she grew an appreciation for the roots of Hip-Hop.
Growing up in a musical family, it was second nature for Angela’s little sister to echo tradition and aspire to become a singer. Surprisingly, she had an incredible voice and loved to sing for anyone who would listen. She would soon become Angela’s first management muse. Cultivating relationships and constant networking within the music industry would be paramount to introducing her sister’s talents to some of the most respected names in Hip-Hop. They took meetings with the likes of Busta Rhymes and many more. Angela’s brother-in-law, who at the time was one of Fat Joe’s and Big Pun’s dearest friends, would soon allow her and her sister to join the Terror Squad family. With her Terror Squad connection, she was able to meet LL Cool J, KRS One, Nice & Smooth, Remy Ma, Lord Finesse and many others. Being in the Hip-Hop world made Angela feel comfortable and peaked her curiosity on how the REAL music business worked. She continued to work the New York streets representing her sister without the official “management” title.
In 2010, Angela moved to Atlanta, GA with hopes of helping talent live out their dreams through her management skills. She would soon meet and manage her first artist for two years, validating her credentials as respected manager on the Atlanta music scene. Now boasting several years of experience under her belt she would go on to team up with multi-platinum producer WLPWR. She signed on as his brand manager then quickly moved on to become his manager. After working with him for five years, Angela decided to open up her own management firm, Gray Matter Collective. She now has a roster of some very talented and motivated individuals which she could not be happier to work hard for each and every day.
As a free- spirited individual, Angela was never afraid of someone telling her “no” or turning her away. Rejection has always been a catalyst to her ability to make things happen. She has always created opportunities at moments when it seemed no opportunities were present. Angela has never believed that people with talent should let it go to waste; it needs to find a home. Her ability to network with others, cultivate business opportunities, and finesse her way through challenges have proven time and time again to be invaluable.
